1. SQL SERVER DOWNLOAD
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is now available for download. These packages may be used to upgrade any edition of SQL Server 2008. We remain committed to providing our customers with essential changes via Service packs. Service Pack 2 contains updates for SQL Server Utility, Data-Tier Application (DAC), as well as integration capability for Microsoft Reporting Services with the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Technologies. Service Pack 2 introduces support for a maximum of 15,000 partitions in a database, and includes SQL Server 2008 SP1 Cumulative Update 1 to 8. While keeping product changes contained, we have made significant investments to ease deployment and management of Service Packs. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 is not a prerequisite for installing SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2.
2. SSMA for Oracle
SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is a free supported tool from Microsoft that simplifies database migration process from Oracle to SQL Server. SSMA automates all aspects of migration including migration assessment analysis, schema and SQL statement conversion, data migration as well as migration testing.

4. Microsoft SQL Server Compact 4.0
Microsoft SQL Server Compact 4.0 is a free, embedded database that software developers can use for building ASP.NET websites and Windows desktop applications. SQL Server Compact 4.0 has a small footprint and supports private deployment of its binaries within the application folder, easy application development in Visual Studio and WebMatrix, and seamless migration of schema and data to SQL Server.
5. SQL Server Code Name "Denali" CTP3
The Master Data Services Add-in for Excel gives multiple users the ability to update master data in a familiar tool without compromising the data’s integrity in MDS. From within the Add-in, users can publish data to the MDS database with the click of a button. Administrators can use the Add-in to create new model objects and load data without ever launching any administrative tools, helping to speed deployment. With the Master Data Services Add-in for Excel, all master data remains centrally managed in MDS, while the ability to read or update the data is distributed to those who need it.

Database mirroring

Database mirroring is a new high-availability feature in SQLServer 2005. It's similar to server clustering in that failover is achieved bythe use of a stand-by server; the difference is that the failover is at thedatabase level rather than the server level. The primary database continuouslysends transaction logs to the backup database on a separate SQL Serverinstance. Full Text Search

The Full Text Search in SQL Server 2011 has been enhanced by allowing you to search and index data stored in extended properties or metadata. Consider a PDF document that has "properties" filled in like Name, Type, Folder path, Size, Date Created, etc. In the newest release of SQL Server, this data could be indexes and searched along with the data in the document itself.
